A targeted mix of legal innovations and awareness-raising measures is intended to put Austria at the forefront of European road safety.
The Austrian Road Safety Programme 2011–2020, which expired at the end of December 2020, served as a guideline for the strategic road safety work of the federal government for joint action in favour of the safety of all people in road traffic. This programme is now followed by the Austrian Road Safety Strategy 2021–2030.
A manual for conducting road safety inspections (RSI) was created by nast consulting GmbH and KFV Sicherheit - Service GmbH and published by the BMK (formerly BMVIT) in 2010. This manual has now been revised, taking into account the legislative changes in connection with the implementation of EU Directive 2008/96/ EC and the experiences gathered in conducting RSI in past years.
